There is an unlocated realm beyond awareness of objects that can’t be grasped. Centerlessness.
When our deep-seated intuitive realism that imprisons us has been dismantled through wise inquiry, insight meditation, and the cultivation of measureless heart qualities, time is not conceived, the future vanishes, and restlessness with it. This is the deactivation of the worldly drives to do, to get, to improve, and to organize.
When there is no longer attraction to meanings, categorizations, gauging, comparisons, and sensual pleasures; when the idea of an autonomous self has been dissolved, the life field becomes homogenous: made of one substanceless substance or empty of everything. The ground of all that is. Language is too circumscribed in that case. Words are restrictions and a play of mind. They are useful to describe intending actors in space and time. They can no longer apply in the ultimate. They can only point at It. “It” can not even be correctly used.
When the paradigm of individuality and selfhood has been abandoned, the body can rest and do its bodily things without anyone interfering. You are giving back something that was never given to you in the first place.
Life lives itself.
It’s highly informative to inquire on the reason why you were born. Have you ever asked yourself? Why is this body here? Is that just by chance?
In absolute, even the subtlest feeling of I-ness will be relinquished. Centerlessness.
Walking the Noble Eightfold Path leads to a point where mental fabrications (sankharas) about the world and what to get out of it are no longer interesting, and the thoughts implying an “I”- acting in the world does not arise. This is ultimate dispassion, which is neither negation nor self-annihilation. This is not rejection. This is just that meanings, perceptions, and feelings clung to as me, mine, and myself have totally lost their grip. Wise consideration and inquiry result in a clear understanding of their impermanent nature (anicca), not being part of the making of a person (anatta), and their unsatisfactory character (dukkha). It brings disenchantment toward them. They are disempowered. The mind is no longer attracted to sounds, sights, smells, tastes, touch, thoughts. It has had enough. It leads to disengagement. Appearances fade away.
The end of the fantasy.
What remains, then?
The question doesn’t apply.
