Awareness takes it all: the ineffable beauty of the Gods, and the bloody guts of an animal spread on a morning road. Wisdom sees the emptiness of it all.
You could retort: How heartless is that!
My little world is the whole world and the other worlds. There is no bubble. In meditation, I receive.
I hear the horrendous screams of children being bombarded in the Middle East. I see the ghostly being, freshly dead, lost with his face deformed. I feel the trees being afraid to be cut down when hearing the chainsaw. I sense the destruction, the rubble of buildings, the orphans, the hate, the unresolved miscommunication, and the stirred-up conflicts: famine, overweight, organized depression, overmedication, illusory value given to bank bills, the spread belief that heart qualities are for the weak, the pillage of resources of Earth by a few, the burnout of school teachers, the dogmas of modern materialistic science, and the damage of certain kinds of waves on organic bodies. I feel the bombs, the war zones, the torture, and the nuclear power. I feel the young soldiers of both sides succumbing to insanity in order to survive.
The more you expand your consciousness, the more you experience. The whole gamut of human mental states, from ultimate joy and bliss to sheer madness, Every form of life can knock on the door and speak.
You can’t avoid it. There is no escape.
It’s not elsewhere or for others. It is just all in you.
It’s all us. We are not different.
The spiritual path is not only about getting well-being. It’s about being able to open up and meet with an open heart the mental agony of every sentient being. The end of the path is to see the emptiness of all of it, awareness included, where indignation has no root. Nevertheless, it is not a shrug of shoulders.
The work starts right here in your own heart.
